Impulsive Decision Leads To Fear

It’s a beautiful fall day and I decide to invite my new cat outside for a photo opportunity.  Because she’s only been outside a handful of times, I feel the need to supervise her and keep her safe from neighbor cats and wild animals until she gets to know her property.

There’s a wonderful old tree at the bottom of our yard with a horizontal branch that she has jumped up onto before.  I am sitting in the crunchy leaves ready with my camera to catch the perfect outdoor photo of her.

With an overwhelming feeling of friskiness, Molly makes an impulsive decision to scramble up the tree.  She triumphantly looks out at her great view but the moment is fleeting.  As she carefully crawls from branch to branch she realizes it is a long way down and begins to make pitiful meows of panic.  Quit taking pictures Mama and help me down!

I climb up on the horizontal branch and can just reach her but as I try to pick her up she digs her rear feet into the tree.  I finally raise her vertically by the scruff, legs splayed out, and gently lower her to the ground on my shoulder.  Fortunately, she just had her nails trimmed at the vet.

Her trembling legs can’t stand up so she flops onto her side and sniffs the ground appreciatively.

Looking up at her nemesis and wondering “what was I thinking?”

My beautiful Molly feeling a little better after her lapse of good judgment.
